Former Celtic youth academy prospect Josh Bradley-Hurst has been given the opportunity to represent Sri Lanka at international level. It has been a busy few months for all involved with this group and a tremendous experience for the young players plying their trade against top class opposition.
In 2023, we were thrilled to appoint Steven Hammell, a former player from Motherwell and the previous first-team Manager, as the Head of Academy Coaching. Off the pitch (we have also maintained our School Partnership with St Ninian’s High School in Kirkintilloch), alongside these developments occurring on the field. Now (there are 5 former pupils playing on the pitch), including Anthony Ralston, Mikey Johnston, and Stephen Welsh. We are convinced that this improves our Player Development Programme (allowing opportunities to compete against some of the world’s top clubs), such as Ajax, Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid, as well as several English teams, among others. Over the past year, our Academy players have participated in highly competitive events across Europe, encompassing the UEFA Youth League, Premier League International Cup, and various other tournaments on the continent.
Why do we have only a single camera positioned outside the main door of Lennoxtown for recording training sessions or matches instead of multiple cameras to ensure comprehensive coverage instead of just subpar footage from one viewpoint? The same situation occurs at AGMs, with many inquiries about the spending on what we observe during Saturday games when we visit the stadium. During the transfer window, there was justified criticism of our recruitment strategy, our scouts, and the head of recruitment, along with calls for the board to loosen the financial constraints and invest, yet very few considered who might be ready to rise within the club. I see the club becoming smarter and finally recognising that player development is not solely about producing technically gifted footballers. That is where boys begin becoming men. You cannot recreate that atmosphere on a training pitch, no matter how modern the facilities or how talented the coaches may be. It is played by experienced defenders who have no interest in protecting a young player’s confidence and midfielders who will compete for every loose ball as though their livelihoods depend on it.
A talented Celtic academy prospect is already attracting interest from Spain’s top flight.

They are actively looking for upcoming talent to join their academy (and are very selective about who gets in), as competition is tough. The move comes as part of Celtic’s continued focus on producing first-team-ready talent from within, following a pathway that has produced the likes of Callum McGregor, James Forrest and Kieran Tierney. Each of the youngsters has come through the ranks at Celtic’s Youth Academy, with the club now committing to their future development by securing them on full-time deals. Glancy joins Spurs as a first-year scholar in their Under-18 squad, becoming the latest Scottish prospect to make the cross-border switch south.
